Let's have a conversation →

Does this sound like you?

  • Your mind replays conversations long after they're over, looking for what you did wrong.
  • You continually imagine worst-case scenarios.
  • You're harder on yourself than you ever would be on anyone else.
  • You lie awake at night with thoughts you can't stop.
  • You agonize over small decisions until you're exhausted, or put them off altogether.
  • You've tried positive thinking, but the moment something goes wrong, you're stuck in fear and doubt again.

You can't think your way out of overthinking.

Here's the honest thing: the problem isn't that you think too much. It's that you believe everything you think.

Your mind is a prediction machine. Its job is to scan for danger, replay mistakes, and warn you about what could go wrong. It doesn't know the difference between a lion and an awkward email, so it treats both as emergencies, and you end up living in a constant state of alarm. When you try to fix that by thinking harder, arguing with the thoughts or replacing them with positive ones, they only get louder.

I know this from the inside. For a long time I was an unhappy, overwhelmed person myself, and some days my mind still gets loud. What changed my life was not getting rid of those thoughts. It was learning that I'm not my thoughts. I'm the one who notices them.

Your mind will still talk. You'll just stop taking orders from it.

A quieter mind.

  • Replaying conversations Letting them go
  • Imagining the worst Staying in the present
  • Harsh self-criticism Talking to yourself like a friend
  • Lying awake Falling asleep
  • Agonizing over decisions Deciding and moving on
  • Spiraling Noticing and letting it pass
  • Fighting your own mind Feeling like yourself again

Picture sending the email you've been rewording for an hour and not thinking about it again. A worry shows up at 2am, you recognize it for what it is, and you go back to sleep. You make a mistake at work and feel the sting of it, and then the rest of your day carries on instead of being swallowed by it. Your mind still talks, but it sounds more like background noise than an alarm, and you have room again for the people and things you enjoy.

People who got out of their heads

Doug helped me navigate a particularly rough patch. I am forever indebted to him for doing so, as things were looking bleak at the time. Highly recommend.
T.F. Black
Working with Doug helped me get out of stuck patterns and see long-standing problems in a completely new way. His calm, grounded presence made it easy to relax, reflect, and be honest, and our conversations often led to real breakthrough moments. Doug brings warmth, directness, and creativity in a way that genuinely makes a difference.
Caryl Taylor
After working with Doug, I feel less stressed, more present, and more grounded in my own needs. After years of people-pleasing, I've learned to say no, make room for myself, and feel happier overall.
